Breed description
The Golden Sebright is a bantam ornamental chicken breed with a very compact, neat and elegant build. Hens and roosters share the same plumage pattern with crisp “lace” edging on each feather. Average hen weight is 0.4–0.5 kg; roosters 0.5–0.6 kg. The breed tames easily and is low maintenance, but it flies well — plan the run and fencing accordingly.
Husbandry and traits
- Run/coop: use a covered run or netting overhead, as birds readily clear low fences.
- Housing: dry, clean, draft-free coop; bedding of shavings or straw.
- Temperament: calm and people-friendly, great for ornamental collections and small homesteads.
Feeding
Standard rations for bantams or custom grain mixes (wheat, maize, barley) with added protein, minerals and vitamins. Provide constant access to clean water and mineral grit (oyster shell, chalk, small gravel).
Breeding and productivity
Average laying rate is up to 80 eggs per year. Eggs are small with a light shell. For breeding, select birds with sharp, even lacing and correct body type.
